Lisa Beech on the social welfare debate in New Zealand

On a very different topic Lisa Beech highlights a disturbing shift that is occurring in debates about the provision of social welfare in New Zealand. It would seem that the idea that poverty and other social problems can be solved by controlling who is and who is not born, a long favoured idea of the eugenics movement, is now being actively considered by some. There should be no place for this sort of thinking in New Zealand's social welfare system.
